We wondered if Echo and Larry recognized this building? It is the Cades Cove visitors center. Very rustic.
On the grounds by the visitors center there are historical houses, barns, and Mill. This was a working mill. The water is turning the wheel.
Inside view of the Mill. See the bags of flour to the right of the picture? The park employee had ground that flour today.
We took the hike from the visitors center to Abrahm FAlls. We had the garmin watch, so we ended up walking almost 7 miles. Dale took this picture, but it was supposed to have the Falls in the background.
Ah, there's the Falls. Pretty aren't they.
The hike followed a little stream most of the way.

Been looking forward to your posting on Cades Cove. Lots of memories when we saw the photos. I hid in the woods by the Abrams Falls parking lot because visitor vehicles were being clouted there. Watched two thugs from Maryville, TN break the side glass out of a car and take a purse. I arrested them and recovered the purse. The owners of the car were honeymooners from Idaho. When they returned from their hike the new bride was most appreciative we had recovered her purse because it contained her birth control pills!
A young family hiked to the falls and their 6 yr. old son was going to start back to the car ahead of the rest. He turned left at the short spur trail instead of right. When the parents got to the parking lot he was nowhere to be seen. We found him about two hours later in the woods between Cades Cove and the Abrams Creek Ranger Station. He had taken another right fork on the trail and was on a fire access road. I had told one of my rangers, Art Whitehead, to drive back and forth on the road and Art spotted the boy hiding when he drove by. The boy would not get in the fire pumper truck until I had his mother tell him on the NPS radio it was ok. Art got a big kiss on the lips from the mother when he brought her son to the Falls parking lot where family was all waiting.
Lady from Germany was trying to get close to the falls and slipped on a wet rock and fell into the pool below the falls. She lost her purse with passport in the pool. A SCUBA certified ranger came out from H.Q. and we carried his SCUBA gear to the falls to recover the purse.
The Cades Cove loop road was becoming a very popular bicycle destination when we were there. We had heard they now close the road to vehicles a few mornings each week so bicycles and vhicles don't mix. Did you get any info. on that?
Thanks for your photos. Most interesting. Larry.
